As a metal, aluminium is a silver white metal with a density of 2.7 grams per cubic cm. The most abundant metallic element, it constitutes 8.1% of Earth’s crust.
So, what is the history of aluminium?
On 25 March 1825, the first aluminium extraction was done by Danish physicist and chemist Hans Christian Orsted, who successfully extracted aluminium by electrolysis. In the following April, he demonstrated the metal he had extracted.
In 1845, German chemist Friedrich Wohler continued Orsted’s experiments. Wohler succeeded in extracting aluminium in the form of small balls of solidified melted metal, but once again, similar to Orsted’s findings, this was not pure aluminium.
Nine years later, Saint-Claire Deville and German chemist Robert Wilhelm Eberhard Bunsen independently developed a technique for extracting pure aluminium by electrolysis. And two years later in 1856, aluminium was considered an elite material.
Here are some of the ways that aluminium products fitted by P&P Glass beat the 19th Century version every time.
Excellent energy savings with aluminium products
Before the 1980s aluminium windows and doors were considered the best in the industry, when in fact their insulation was poor. Featuring single-glazed aluminium frames, these products weren’t energy efficient and certainly couldn’t handle some of the harshest of weathers that we have today.
In comparison to then, all aluminium products from P&P Glass can achieve the perfect mix of ‘A’ energy ratings and low U-values. This means that you can expect to receive outstanding ventilation, and your home will remain at an optimal temperature all year round.
Strengthened security measures for your aluminium products
In the 1980s there was very little in the form of integrated security measures for your aluminium products. Most of the time you would even have to buy your locking system after you had purchased your product!
Nowadays, we wouldn’t dream of selling an aluminium product without an integrated locking system. Each of our aluminium doors features a multipoint locking mechanism that offers the highest levels of security with sealed units such as toughened safety glass. And our windows have built-in security, giving you and your family peace of mind that you will be safe against unwanted visitors.
Variety of different window and door designs to choose from
Over the 20th century, casement windows and art deco aluminium windows remained a firm favourite – especially as there was a limited range of windows styles to choose from.
Fast forward to today, and we offer a wide range of high-performance sleek, stylish, and strong aluminium products. From functional casement windows to French doors, an aluminium product from P&P Glass can swiftly transform your Surrey home into a gorgeous 21st Century masterpiece.
