Two hard-working Surrey fundraisers are celebrating after raising an amazing £13,000 for Shooting Stars Children’s Hospices.
Ten years ago, Phil and Nicky Ludlow went through something every parent dreads.
Their son, George, was blue-lighted to A&E, barely conscious, paralysed down one side, and unable to speak.
The episode left George with complex, uncontrollable epilepsy and cognitive difficulties – but Nicky and Phil were determined to make something positive out of their adversity.
They decided to raise as much money as possible for a charity that, over the years, has provided them and George with a huge amount of support – Shooting Stars Children’s Hospices.
And this year, to mark the tenth anniversary of the incident that changed all their lives, they’ve launched themselves into twelve months of fundraising activity – with a little help from local home improvement company P&P Glass.
The family have taken part in the Vitality 10K, the Weybridge 10K, the British 10K, and the Disneyland Paris half marathon along the way, as well as organising a number of events – including a Weybridge Quiz Night that P&P helped fund, and went on to raise an amazing £6,500.
That took the total amount raised by the Ludlow’s year-long campaign to over £13,000, still with several months to go before it’s due to end on St George’s Day 2020.
“We’re over the moon to have raised so much money for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices,” Nicky Ludlow comments. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of companies like P&P, and everyone else who’s kindly supported us this year.
“We’ve still got three months to raise even more, though – and if you’d like to support us, please visit the Virgin Giving site and search ‘George’s Dragons’ or visit www.georgesdragons.org. Our goal is reaching £15,000!
“We have a family fun walk coming up in March, and I’m currently training for the final event – the London Marathon in April!”
Tom Scanlan, Managing Director at P&P comments: “My daughter went to the same school as Phil and Nicky’s, and that’s how I first met them – later, we went on to do some work on their home.
“From the start, we were hugely impressed by their passion and enthusiasm for their cause, and doing our bit to support them was the least we could do. We hope as many people as possible choose to do the same!”
