Fogged up double glazed units – what can be done to fix this?
Cloudy or misted up double glazed units is a common problem amongst homeowners. If your double glazed unit looks misty, this is a sign that moisture is trapped between the panes, meaning the unit has failed and will need to be replaced. This can occur in both windows and doors.
What causes a double glazed unit to fail?
Double glazed units or DGU for short, are made up of two panes of glass which are sealed and filled with argon gas. Over time, the seal can fail, allowing moisture to get in between the panes. As well as affecting the look of the window, the thermal efficiency of the window is also compromised.
Can this be fixed without replacing the window or door frame?
The good news is, at P&P Glass, we can replace the double glazed unit without the need to replace the frame as well. This is a quick job and is the most cost effective option if the frame is in good condition. If your window or door frame is showing signs of aging, it may be worth considering a full replacement.

How P&P Glass can help
If you need a double glazed unit replaced, one of our friendly team can visit your home to take the correct measurements. Our team can also advise on the glass that is required, for example if it needs to be toughened or solar control glass. The unit will then be ordered and a member of our installation team will return to fit the unit. Replacement double glazed units normally take around 2 – 3 weeks to be ordered and fitted.
