New Wimbledon showroom

New Timber Windows Showroom - WimbledonNew Timber Windows Showroom - WimbledonOur new designated timber showroom in Wimbledon was officially opened over the weekend of the 19th and 20th May 2012 and looks fantastic. The 1050 square foot showroom space showcases the best timber windows, conservatory and orangery products available in the UK today and demands a closer look.

This new facility will help to improve the service that we currently offer in the South West London and North Surrey areas and make it easier for homeowners to view the widest range of products before committing to an order.

The Green Deal

The Green DealWhat is it?
The Green Deal is the Coalition Governments new environmental flagship policy to encourage the investment in energy efficient products in homes and businesses. The Green Deal will be launched from October 2012 and it places an obligation on energy companies to provide the finance to fund energy efficient improvements to buildings, with repayments made in instalments attached to the utility bill.

The key principle is that energy efficient improvements should pay for themselves and in this case they will be funded through the savings on fuel bills. Therefore every British home and business will be able to install packages of energy saving technologies such as modern replacement windows at no upfront cost, making their property warmer and cosier straight away, with repayments made over time out of the energy savings.

Triple glazing

Triple glazing is a system of sealed glazing units using 3 sheets of glass. It is the next step up from double glazing. Triple glazing is not yet the norm in the UK, but in colder countries with extreme winter weather, particularly in Scandinavia and in Canada they have been a building standard for decades. The aim of triple glazing is to provide better thermal and sound insulation with a reduced risk of condensation than other forms of windows.

Triple GlazingThe rough and ready method of comparing the energy performance of windows is to use the Uvalue measurement, just as we do with walls, floors and roofs. Traditional windows, with a single pane of glass in them, have a U-value in excess of 5. Double glazing used to score over 3, but, over the years, the manufacturing process has undergone a number of improvements and currently the Building Regulations insist that any window you install today should have a U-value no worse than 1.6.
